LIFE SAVING CITATION
Presented to

OFFICER JASON HOPKINS

For outstanding performance as a member of the Sherwood Police Department on February 18, 2007.

On that date, Officer Hopkins was assigned to evening shift patrol when he was dispatched to a one-vehicle accident on Oakdale road. Upon his arrival, he saw a vehicle overturned and on fire with two men running from the vehicle indicating that someone was trapped inside. Officer Hopkins retrieved his fire extinguisher from his vehicle and ran towards the burning vehicle where he heard a young female screaming for help and saw she was engulfed in flames. Using his fire extinguisher, he was able to subdue the flames until arrival of the fire department. He then, without hesitation, began pulling hose from the fire truck and assisting with distribution of water on the victim.

During rescue efforts, Officer Hopkins’ hands were burned and his uniform scorched but he remained on scene without complaint for an excess of two hours until the victim was successfully extracted from the vehicle. Having sustained severe burns on her entire body, but still alive, the accident victim was taken by med-flight to Arkansas Children’s Hospital. It was later learned that the female trapped inside the vehicle was only 17 years old. Medical personnel are certain that if it had not been for the quick actions of Officer Hopkins she would have most likely not survived.

Officer Hopkins’ selfless act of heroism, as a member of the Sherwood Police, Department is in keeping with the highest ideals of law enforcement and the Sherwood Police Department. The actions of Officer Hopkins bring credit to himself, the Sherwood Police Department, and the City of' Sherwood.
